They say you are judged by the company you keep and we are extremely proud of being in the company of some outstanding Marion County businesses including Bentley’s Grill, Salem Convention Center and Travel Salem that are EarthWISE certified.
Did you know The Grand Hotel in Salem and Bentley’s Grill were the first hotel and restaurant in Salem and Marion County to be EarthWISE certified? It’s true!
So what does it mean to be an EarthWISE business?
The EarthWISE program is a free business environmental assistance program offered by Marion County, Oregon
The WISE in EarthWISE stands for Workplace Initiative for Sustainable Enterprise.
To become EarthWISE certified, businesses must meet specific criteria with regards to recycling, waste reduction/prevention, environmentally preferable purchasing, energy efficiency/conservation and water pollution prevention.
Our guest room and company wide recycling programs have allowed us support programs like Clean the World, the largest global recycler of hotel soaps and bottled amenities.
Since partnering with them in 2010, our hotel has collected over 4,049 pounds of waste which translates to 12,324 bars of soap and other much-needed hygiene products for those in need here in North America and around the world. We have also recycled a total of 1,304 pounds of plastic with this program.
Compact Florescent lighting in each guest room, earth friendly cleaning supplies, and using 100% recycled paper products are just some of the other ways we are practicing sustainability.
