1st Annual Tamale Trot to Benefit Friends of Pimpollo Kicks Off October 28th!
If indulging in authentic tamales, tangy salsa, lively music, beer, and fun for a good cause in beautiful Salem Riverfront Park is your idea of a good time, then the 1st Annual Tamale Trot on Saturday, October 28th is for you!
This family-friendly benefit 5k/10K run/walk along the Salem Waterfront is in observation of Dia de los Muertos, a popular Mexican holiday a.k.a “Day of the Dead”, and will raise funding to support emerging programs in Southern Mexico. The Grand Hotel in Salem and other members of the Vips, Inc. family (Salem Convention Center, Bentley’s Grill, and The Grand Hotel at Bridgeport) are proud to be among the fine sponsors of the inaugural event on October 28th!
The Vips, Inc. family has a longstanding relationship with Friends of Pimpollo, a nonprofit organization based in Salem, Oregon. This non-profit is on a mission to provide educational opportunities to children and their families living in the impoverished regions of Oaxaca and Chiapas, Mexico. For the past 15 years, the organization has been a pillar of hope to communities lacking educational opportunities. Today, Friends of Pimpollo provides a nutritious school lunch to 600 children each month; room, board, and college scholarships to 16 young adults; adult education to 200; and care for the most vulnerable orphans. This work was initiated in Salem and continues to be supported by this community!
